British colonial troops, having occupied Upper Burma, marched to Kalay to annex Chin Hill in 1887. In early 1889, British troops invaded Chin Hill and Chin patriotic forces fought back them with guerilla warfare. Chin patriotic forces built a fort in Sharlom to repulse British troops and both sides suffered heavy casualties during the fight. Irrawaddy’s photojournalist J Paing captured the century-old fort which played a part in history of Chin Hills. The second Sharlom Fort. (Photo - JPaing/The Irrawaddy)
